CHINESE New Year

Indian Bloggers
In every corner of the world, there is a different date for new year. Take the case of India only. North Indians celebrate New year on Diwali, some on Holi, Bengalis in mid April, Muslims during Muharram and so on…While the English New Year is celebrated with pomp and show everywhere,  different new year occasions are simply an excuse for extended celebrations!!

I did not know about Chinese new year before 3 years. The reason being whichever country we visited, during our anniversary, (ie around 1st week of Feb), we saw new year festivities. Then we came to know that Chinese New Year falls around January end to mid February. Wow!! Now that is what I call amazing coincidence!!

The best part about this holiday is the elaborate and robust red decorations. The Chinese are fond of red and they make sure they adorn everythingwith red. Red lamps, dragons, ribbons, fruits coated with red paper…its red red everywhere!!

Last year this day was on 10th feb. we were in Manila, Philippines. Manila has a huge China town in Buninda district. We visited China Town on 7th Feb when festivities were in full swing. The entire town was painted red, literally. Even daily items like fruits, vegetables and fish had red ribbons around them. What a sight!!

The most interesting thing was the wishing tree where people wrote their wishes on paper and tied them to get them burnt on New year day. We also went to the China Town Mall where we had a hearty meal. Hubby for a change found an egg meal (without any meat). Last year was the year of snake and it turned out to be fabulous for us!!

This year, New Year was on 31 january. This is the year of the horse. Hope it turns out to be awesome for all of us!!

any guess as to what is written??
