Whenever we think or speak of Dubai, what comes to our mind?? gigantic skyscrapers, state of the art architectures, plexus of flyovers and other world record breaking things. But what we do not ponder upon is what this city originally was. Dubai could not have been this since ages. Located in the midst of Arabian Desert, it had nothing which could support life. It had only millions of gallons of oil reserves to boast about. Well we all know that its history now and how these Arabic people have defied every natural obstacle with technology.

I have always been fascinated with past. Be it a person or a place, I feel that unless one knows about his/its history, the information is always half baked. I am in habit of digging up even the forbidden past!! scary..is it??

When I visited Dubai, I was intrigued to know how this city looked before. Given the pace of exponential urbanisation, it was very difficult to find out something absolutely authentic. However, when I started for city tour, our first stop was the Dubai Museum and I was overjoyed!!
The Dubai Museum is situated in the AL FAHIDI fort. This fort is supposedly the oldest standing structure in Dubai. Built in 1787, it has been preserved carefully so as to protect the city's heritage. Entry ticket was of 5 AED and all my questions were answered as I started touring inside the museum. :)
Inside the fort, there is simulation of the lifestyle of the Arabic people that existed hundreds of years ago...the houses in which they lived, the weapons they used, the kind of villages...everything that was possible to be simulated. In a nutshell, it gives you a tour of ancient Dubai.

inside an old styled (simulated) Arabic hut...

replica of ship factory..

one from the huge fleet of ships on display...

this is how they used to grind spices...hubby giving a try...

simulation of a no frill bedroom... how about comparing it the 7 star suite of Burj Al Arab?? :d

the process of extracting oil...even enacting is tedious!!

this tower is supposed to be the oldest existing structure of Dubai...built in 1787

the Al Fahidi Fort from outside...

with my dad outside the gate...

dont I look like a true nomad?? :D

selling arabic dates...one of the very few crops that can grow here...

with a burqa clad seamstress...

a village market scene in full activity...

can you spot my ticket :p

thirsty I am...I need to pull out water from this well :D

this kind of boat was used for fishing...

a water tank....

p.s This is the only museum in my life where photography is allowed in every nook and corner. Isn't it delightful?? :D

Part II
This post is a sequel of my latest trip. I always wanted to be a doctor since childhood. Well I wanted to be a rockstar too :D Hence my earnest interest in music and dance :D Coming back to my medico aspiration, even my first Barbie was a doctor barbie!! I was that much obsessed!! As I started growing up, I realised venturing into this profession requires a lot of dedication and hard work. As my 11th standard started, I was overburdened with studies. I also started dreaming about the medical institutes where I would like to get in. Every medical aspirant fantasizes AIIMS but that is next to impossible given the limited seats and the difficulty level of its entrance test. My next preference was King George Medical College  which is one of the very few medical colleges of India to be established before independence. Founded in 1904, it is one of the best in the country. But getting here also meant achieving a top rank in the entrance test. Sadly, I could not make it here because of my rank:(  But I was satisfied as I got admission in NHMC
and finally became a doctor :)

I first met my husband in his hospital. He says he fell in love with me at his first sight; but it was not so in my case. I was attracted to him as inspite of being so senior to me, he treated me so nicely. I was just an intern then, but he treated me with respect. As our conversation progressed, I learnt that he is a medical graduate from KGMC, my dream college!! My respect for him intensified and gradually, I fell in love with his humble and loving nature.
This time when we went to Lucknow he took me to his institute. I was thrilled. It is a huge institute producing the best doctors of the country every year. I felt so proud of my husband that I realised that my unfulfilled dream has been accomplished through him.

Part I

Hello everyone!! I was off the blogging world for about a week as I had some urgent things to do that required me to run around. But my chore also required me to go to another city which i turned into work cum short break!! Though clubbing sight seeing with work turned out to be a very hectic experience; given that I am not in the pink of my health right now; but I enjoyed every moment of my stay in Lucknow, the city of Nawabs nonetheless!!

The name of this city is after Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Rama and it stands on the banks of Gomti river. However it gained political importance during the Mughal dynasty when the Mughal emperors appointed Nawabs (Muslim Noblemen) for their smooth administration. Nawabs were the epitome of luxurious lifestyle; and therefore that laidback attitude exists even today in the lifestyle of lucknow people.

Being such an ancient city, there are lot many structures to visit here; the trademark exquisite Mughal architecture. The main points of historical interest are :
Bada Imambada ( the famous Labyrinth or Bhool Bhulaiyya is here)
Chhota Imambada
Roomi Darwaza
Ghanta ghar
Hazrat ganj
Residency

I had plans of covering as much as possible but my office work took so much time on the first day that I hardly had time to roam around. Lucknow had always been my hubby's city.He is a medical graduate from the eminent King George Medical College. and he knows this city more than his birthplace. So he took a bike from his friend and I zoomed around the city as his pillion :)
On the first day of my 2 day trip, it was almost 6 pm when I got free. Famished and exhausted, Hubby took me to taste the famous Awadhi cuisine. As it was almost dark, I could just pay a visit to two beautiful mosques.

this splendid mosque caught my fancy when we were zooming on the road beside it....

just love the Golden dome and the riot of colours!!

the beautiful Tile wale Masjid...

the sun had set when we took this pic...

Is there anyone who does not like chocolates? Well I donot think I am eligible to answer that as I wont be able to survive without them!! They give me pleasure and are my biggest mood lifters!! So when there was a chocolate festival in the weekend at the Select Citywalk , how on earth could I have given it a miss?? :D

I just went there to buy some heavenly chocolacious treats but the fest turned out to be a lot more than my expectations!! All the premium patisseries and bakeries of Delhi had come together to give a taste of their finest creations. There was The Taj Mahal made up entirely of chocolates!! An ultimate visual treat!! Also all sorts of cakes, macaroons and brownies smelling heavenly!! To top it up, there were a lot of free tastings too!! That actually did not help me in my purchase as I got overtly confused and ended up buying a lot more than I could eat :D
Here is a visual treat for all of you..I still can feel the heavenly chocolicious smell!!

The Chocolate Taj mahal...wow!!
