2015 is almost coming to an  end. How has your year been so far? Mine had been a real roller coaster. With the lowest of lows and highest of highs, 2015 has been the most eventful year of my life. Leaving all that, this Saturday I was determined to celebrate. I had received this yellow blazer and this lovely fringe bag from Dresslink.com and was looking for an ocassion to break them. There was a book launch and a high tea. We just had the tea and went off to our favourite place 'Aqua' after work. I have been here several times and remains my top favourite poolside restaurant. After we took few pictures, I was summoned by a lady to click her.

The Park hotel
First I thought she was a Punjabi but her accent suggested otherwise. On inquiring we came to know that she was from London. She was here with her father. He was born here in India, Jalandhar 70 years back. Our hearts raced back. Her dad was from pre independence era..before partition.

She had a varied origin. Her dad married a Singaporean who was from Pakistani origin. She was born in Singapore but lived in London as her ancestors are from Britain. Her siblings married all over the world. One wed a Filipino and now living in Australia, one married an Indian but living in the US and so on. We had a long hearty chat about nationalities and differences. She was very sweet. After exchanging kin tales we parted.

My mind is still pondering over her diverse background. Why do borders, religions have to divide us? We all are humans at the end of the day. I married outside my community and did not bat an eyelid on what others would say. I think true love is really blind and unconditional.

After visiting the sacred relics of St. Francis Xavier ( what a privilege) we proceeded to visit the other churches. Since it was an once in ten years event, it was too much crowded. There is a detailed post on it here.
We were in a dilemma. Should we go back to the parking and pick our bike or explore the area on foot and claim our bike later. We stuck with our second plan and exited our way out of the crowd.
We walked towards the Old Ferry terminal. The port connected Old Goa with Panaji. Sadly when we reached the ferry terminal, it got dark so we could not take any pictures. There were jungles on both sides of the road; making it darker than usual.
Perhaps the best way to reach Old goa from Panaji, the capital of Goa, is to follow the same way as the visitors did in the city's heyday. After crossing the wide river Mandovi, the Viceroy's arch marked the entrance into Old Goa. This arch was erected by the grandson of Vasco De Gama( the person who discovered India). He later became the viceroy and hence its name.

The Viceroy's Arch. Erected by the grandson of Vasco De Gama, this arch marked the entrance to Old Goa from Panaji, its capital across the wide river Mandovi.

Today ferries operate from morning till evening at free of cost!! Isn't that strange! The ships carry even cars and two wheelers. I think this is the easiest way to reach Panaji from Old Goa!

As it was dark we decided to take the five minute shuttle bus to the parking ( as we could not figure out which spot we were in exactly). My legs had given away so I simply sat on the road. Few people gave me stares that I might be a fashionable beggar!! He he! These are the perks of being a tourist! I could never do this in Delhi :D

After a while the shuttle bus came. We boarded it and confidently said that we were going to the parking near the basilica of Bom Jesus. Little we knew that there were many parking areas on all the sides of the basilica.

It took a while to realise we had come the wrong way and immediately deboarded. Lost, tired and hungry, we spotted a South Indian restaurant. We ordered masala Dosa and Sambhar Vada. Hubs gobbled his meal and asked me to wait at the restaurant while he would return with his bike. I waited forever. Took him around 45 minutes and I was so relieved to see him!

On our way back I came to know that we were lost and it took him a big deal to figure out where exactly we were and where was the parking!!   It was one and half an hour hour ride from Old Goa to our hotel in Calangute. The entire way was with river Mandovi on one side and the breeze was freezing! Our day concluded with partying on the Baga beach!

Enjoying my Juice magazine amidst the nature...

Receiving a gift is one of those things that brings a level of joy disproportionate to its size. It can be anything...a chocolate, flower or a book! It brings happiness to me nonetheless!

One fine morning when I knocked my parents' door to drop off my baby (I do that everyday before going for work) my mom handed me a package. What is it? I asked. I wasn't expecting anything. On the way back in the car I could not wait and ripped off the cover. A surprise waited for me. It was 'The Juice magazine'!

For any fashionista a fashion magazine is food for thought and I am no different. Remember Carrie Bradshaw's words...."When I came to New York in the beginning I bought Vogue instead of dinner because it fed me more". Well I can totally relate to her. I can spend endless hours drooling over the contents of a glossy magazine.

To start with The Juice has it all. The November issue is a potpourri of everything that a girl wants. From fashion to make up to travel and health. All the sections are my favourite. So where should I start?

Saree in a never seen before avatar!

Fashion: They have the new arrivals from various brands. They have handpicked various outfits according to categories like brocade, boho, beachy etc. This issue focuses on ethnic as November is the month of festivities.

Ethnicity with a twist: Give the nine yard wonder a new life. Yes, the age old saree gets a makeover. Learn how to drape saree in a never seen before avatar. From tying huge bow knots to wearing it as a kaftan, the modest saree gets a glam makeover!

Make up: Every girl likes make up. Those who say they don't are lying! I agree to a very wise man's saying(read my husband)...Even the choicest of diamonds needs to be carved and  polished to exhibit its glory! Similarly a girl, no matter how beautiful she is needs make up to look her best!
My favourite part is the budget buy section. Who says you have to buy exorbitant brands to look best. The Juice team has assembled all kinds of cosmetics that will make you look like your favourite stars. From Katrina Kaif to Sonam Kapoor, emulating their looks is a cakewalk! The perfect Diwali look!

Wedding trivia: November is also the month of weddings. This issue has a host of wedding planning advice. From choosing the perfect baker to intricate invites, you sure would love this section even if you are not tying the knot!

The Lust List: Last but not the least all the items to look out for this winter! I always restock my wardrobe every season and this kind of guide helps a lot in building my closet. A fashionista's ultimate shopping guide.

I simply can't wait for the December issue!

Its not that often that I go bar hopping...in fact never..that too alone at a new place!! But that day had already gone crazy...I never had been scared to death before. Remember that old man and his axe here? I was almost anticipating that weapon coming over our throats!! Those were the longest 20 minutes of my life. Then again on the way to Anjuna Flea market. remember the mishap here?I never had such an accident before. I was already petrified of motorbikes and now that I had a grave fall, I am terrified like hell! So what could possibly happen worse? It was one of the longest, most eventful day of my life:
Calangute beach in the morning, Trek to Lamgao caves then visiting Aravalam, falling from bike on the way to Anjuna Flea market, Shopping like crazy in the flea market ( hubby wanted to cheer me up), romping in the serene backwaters of Chapora river, then driving to Morjim beach where we swam after the life guards had blown their whistles and gorging on a 1.2 kilo red snapper alone.....Phew phew phew!! What could have been possibly left out? We had travelled almost 150 kms on the bike.

After we returned to our hotel, we had plans of enjoying the night life of Baga which was just a couple of kms away. The previous night we were in Baga too; but this night we had plans of prancing in Tito's lane exclusively.

Baga is infamous for its nightlife. The hippest of discotheques and pubs were there. Tito's lane was lined with all these places. Its environment reminded me of Patong, Phuket but sans the raw and open sex. Music was glaring and so were the lights.

Girls entry was free at most of the places and so were unlimited drinks for the chicks. Hubby being a teetotaler, there was no use of paying such big amounts just for dancing. We had already danced to our heart's content the night before. Then he had a terrible as well as terrific suggestion.
He sent me to the hippest pub and asked me to dance and enjoy myself.
Apprehensive at first, I agreed. I was not going to come to Goa at least for the next couple of years so I should give it a shot. So I went inside. People were drunk and dancing like crazy. I spotted a group of young Gujrati college couples and joined them. For the drinks, I had blue night gin, vodka and coke. I also made friends with an elderly lady and made her dance!! In short I had a wonderful time!!

In the meantime, since my official photographer was not with me, I grabbed anyone to take a picture. After all I had to show hubby everything!!

In midst of the chaos and tiredness, we had forgotten to take our camera. Hence poor phone pictures!! At the end I was sooooo tired that I could barely move!! My legs gave away while ascending the stairs of our hotel room and I slipped!! Oh wow!! I hurt my other shin this time!! What an incredible ending to this super awesome  20 hours!!

in the bar..in the car..iske nahkre hai hazaar :p :p

Schezwan rice for dinner... I was already full with the 1.2 kilo red snapper!!

This lady was from Hyderabad. Her husband was dancing while she was sitting alone. Good that I got her for company!!

Triveni saree, #Traditionmyway

Belated happy Diwali loves! The last festival of the year is sadly over but I am still basking in its hangover. So what if the festivities are done with? We can still look at the pictures and relive those moments...can't we?

So what is your favourite part? The lights, decorations or the gifting? People may find it amusing that as much I love the lights and decorations, dressing up is my favourite part. After Durga Puja, Diwali is my favourite time of the year. The reason is simple...I get to have fun for 5 days during Durga Puja while during Diwali its just three! Well lets come to my favourite part...the look.

I usually opt for a traditional look; no points for guessing. For me or for anyone else it is usually a saree or lehenga or something in between (read sharara, anarkali suit et al). This time too I was thinking of donning a saree. But when Jabong.com came up with the #traditionmyway contest, I decided to wear my saree with a twist.

I am a very conservative person by nature. But 90% people misjudge me by my appearance. Just because I wear Westerns most of the time and don't pay too much attention to my rising hem, people take me as not the 'ideal' bahu. It is indeed very surprising as well as saddening that people judge your character by your external appearance. My parents have imbibed deep rooted values in me and I am brimming with them. People who are very close to me only know this side of me. I should not have to sacrifice my individuality in order to please others or to fit into a particular image. Hence I found #Traditionmyway very liberating as I can still be who I am without having to renounce my penchant for fashion.

I chose a rich cobalt blue georgette saree from Triveni Sarees (I have newly been appointed as the brand ambassador) instead of the regular red or green one with heavy embroidery. I love the elaborate gold border and the minimalistic appearence of the rest of the saree. The twist is in its draping. Since the blouse is more like a crop top with heavy gold work, I put my pallu in the front. A little midriff flashing is acceptable according to my compass on Diwali. I have a baby and I don't have washboard abs but that should not bar me from midriff baring. Its tradition my way.

For neck, ears and maang tika, I chose classic Kundan jewellery. But for arm candy, I stuck to spiky gold bracelet and a watch. After all a modern woman can't work without one! Ethnic meets grunge!

For footwear I chose beige pumps with gold heels instead of the regular sandals. And a golden envelope clutch to keep my phone and money. I chose not to wear any bindi. For make up I went a bit overboard (for my standards) and applied MAC lady Danger on my lips and Sephora jumbo crayons on my eyelids. After all its Diwali....a bit gawdy is acceptable...isn't it? What do you think of my look?
