Sunset at Lake Pichola, Udaipur

by - 1/05/2017

Our wedding anniversary getaways are pretty familiar by now I believe. What used to be a full fledged vacation earlier turned into a quick getaway on becoming parents. In fact my husband decided to chuck the whole idea of going out until our daughter became old enough to understand and travel. Actually he is always looking for excuses to save money 😀 Therefore I had to settle for a short yet beautiful trip. Yes, we decided to spend our anniversary in the City of Lakes, Udaipur. And since the plan was so impromptu, we could not do air ticket booking on time. Last minute flight deals are really expensive. So we had to settle on Tatkal tickets on the Mewar Express
The first day on our arrival was spent on exploring the city. Of course, travellers like us can't think of rest; even if the getaway is after weeks of slogging at the hospital. We dumped our luggage at the first  clean hotel our auto rickshaw wala took us and we left for the Monsoon Palace.
The whole day was spent sightseeing. I had been to Udaipur with my parents when I was a kid. I faintly remembered half of the famous spots. While some of them were brand new for me..like the Sajjangarh or Monsoon Palace. After visiting Bhagore Ki haveli, City Palace and other small spots of this beautiful city, it was time for sunset.

I don't want to sound cliched but I love sunsets. I mean I don't witness them in Delhi! Sunsets are famous wherever there are mountains or a water body. And sunset in the largest lake of Udaipur, Lake Pichola is a must do in the itinerary. We reached there just time and occupied a place in one of the cutest restaurants present there. The Rajasthan sun was too bright even during setting. In all we had a wonderful time watching the sun go down into the Lake Pichola.

Now it was almost time to retire after a long day. We wanted a nice hotel to end the day. Not the timepass one in which we had dumped our luggage in the morning. It was our wedding anniversary after all. Hubs was ready to splurge. We found a beautiful hotel overlooking the Lake Pichola. Of course it was not as luxurious as the Taj Exotica Goa, but it was magnificent nonetheless.

We checked out from our previous room and shifted in to this boutique hotel. We had a lovely anniversary dinner in the rooftop restaurant; watching the twinkling lights by the Lake Pichola. Finally it was time to call it a day.

The next morning, we checked out after having breakfast. So watching the sunset in the lake served so many purposes. Number one: the magnificent sunset of course, number two: finding a beautiful hotel to spend the night, number three: dinner over looking the Lake Pichola. In all, it was the perfect conclusion to our short and sweet trip in the most beautiful city of Rajasthan.

I agree, sunsets are beautiful on mountains in the backdrop of a lake. I have seen a few of such sights myself and they are on my Instagram too.
