End of an era
7 th April marks 12 years of my first baby, my blog. Yes! I hit the publish button for the first time in 2013. Before starting my own blog, I used to read and follow a hundred others, and it was basically from those OG "bloggers" that I motivated to begin sharing my views with the entire world to see. While those OG bloggers slowly morphed into BIG time entrepreneurs, I am still stuck with my middle class mentality.
I used to follow biggies like Chriselle Lim (The Chriselle Factor), Chiara Ferragni (The blonde salad), Lauren Conrad (reality TV sweetheart) , Rachel Parcell (Pink Peonies) Emily Schuman (Cupcakes and Cashmere), Tamara Kalinic (Glam and Glitter) and lots of other girls (some very young, other moms too) whose every new post brought a ray of happiness in my life. As they rolled into entrepreneurship, their contribution to their blogs became minimal, from writing themselves to their team writing and finally they shut off their blogs altogether.
End of an era. When all these powerful women announced on Instagram about this mammoth change, (at different times nevertheless) , there were thousands of girls like me who mourned in the comment section. I mean it had become a daily ritual like having coffee to read what they had to share. Instant dopamine has taken our lives by storm, which has compelled us to shift to scrolling rather than reading a blog.
All these women run successful businesses and they are very active on Instagram and Tik Tok. Some have made the shift to Susbtack recently, the latest rage and I am yet to fathom this trend. I am not going to subscribe for their content, I don't have that much free money. I would rather scour for simple blogs of writers like myself, who are still stuck in the past yet the passion is alive.
I am neither an entrepreneur nor a socialite. I am simple mother of two, a medical professional who just loves to write and share her creative streak through photographs and videos. My blog hardly earns anything for me for the past couple of years. Yet I continue to write and will do hopefully.
I am nostalgic about the golden era of blogging. Give me back that slow life, the era of heart to heart conversations and ramblings, high quality pictures and not clickbaits. It is definitely the end of an era but for me , my blog will always remain my first baby. Happy Birthday 🎈🎈🎈

This post made me remember my initial days in blogging, that included mostly our daily life anecdotes.
ReplyDeleteI’ve gone through similar “end of an era” moments, and it’s never easy—especially when you’ve poured so much of yourself into something. But like you, I’ve also found that endings often clear the path for beautiful, unexpected beginnings. Thank you for sharing this honest reflection. It’s comforting to know we’re not alone in these transitions. Wishing you peace and excitement for what’s next.
ReplyDeleteWell, I had never heard of these bloggers, but I like the fact that they are successful entrepreneurs. Blogging is no longer a coveted phenomenon, but I treat my blog as a journal, and it is a good way to keep the creative juices flowing. I enjoy the space for what it is, a platform of passion.
ReplyDeleteWow, this hit home. I started my own blog around 2015 and have gone through so many ups and downs myself. I feel you on the “middle class mentality” line! I still write my blog too, even if it doesn't bring in big (or any) bucks. It has become a source of escape for me now. The way you described that era—it was truly magical. And yes, blogs are still worth celebrating. Happy blogiversary!
