Today I conclude the incredible Andaman Sea journey. When we say Phi phi island; pronounced as Pee Pee, what is meant is not a single island but two.. Phi Phi Ley (small) and Phi phi Don (big). The famous maya bay is in Ley. These two islands come under Krabi district though everyone goes from Phuket.

Basically the specialty of these two islands lies in the fact that they are lagoons. The picturesque limestone cliffs encircle a chunk of the aquamarine water to form a lagoon. The size of the lagoons are the reason behind their names.

Phi phi don island as the name suggests, is huge. But the incredible part is that the water is so shallow, one can actually traverse the whole lagoon by foot!! The clear water gives an amazing view of what all lies beneath. Though you can walk throughout, I suggest that unless one is a good swimmer; one should refrain from doing so!!

Our lunch was organised at the Don island. Food, very unlike of me, was not very palatable as it was absolutely unrefined Thai Food. There was pork and beef and other forbidden things and I had to satiate my appetite with just chicken. Imagine the poor plight of my strictly veggie hubby!!

The best part of this place was that we got about one hour time to swim before the whistle blew for going back!! swimming remains my favourite activity and I would love to visit this amazing place again and again!!

After a small hiatus as i said here, I continue with my Thai odyssey. My last Thai post was Maya bay and I would continue that.

After we stopped at Phi Phi ley Island for snorkelling, our next stop was Phi Phi Don island ( Don meaning big). The distance between the two islands was considerable and therefore the journey through the enchanting Andaman Sea was incredible!!

There were limestone cliffs all around the sea which gave a lush green touch to the aquamarine waters. I can still feel the splash of white water all around while jetting through the sea. We turned almost black basking in the sun but that could not deter us from not enjoying the scenery!!

Hello my lovely readers!! If you have been noticing my recent pictures carefully, you would have seen that I have gained a lot of weight recently. Well, I have a big announcement to make. I had been expecting and finally I have got the fruit!! Yes!! we have been blessed with a baby girl last Tuesday!!

I am not a big fan of kids but I love and cuddle them. I used to be scared of kids; especially the very young ones as I found them very delicate. I had never touched a newborn before. But now that I am a mother myself, I am handling my daughter all the time. Its very tiring and believe me...A FULLTIME JOB!!

Motherhood is indeed very rejoicing. Not that it doesnot have any downs; ( I am thinking of disadvantages all the time). The only joy I have been getting from her is that I feel complete after I gave birth. Otherwise, its very taxing. There is post partum depression and I can very well relate to it!!

Since this blog is an integral part of life, I felt that I should share this important chapter of my life. I have a lot of things to do now... raising my daughter and losing my natal weight being my topmost priorities!!

I underwent a Caesarean section as I did not want to go through labour. I escaped the labour pains but here I am now with my surgery scar, stretch marks and total bed rest!!

Here are some pictures of my incredible yet tiring and painful journey.
with the happiest picture first... My sweet farhein feeding me celebratory cake!!

P.S There is no picture of either my parents or inlaws as they were first tensed then excited :D And as usual, the father of my daughter was busy clicking both of us :D

As I continue my Thai Odyssey, the adventure which I want to share today is probably the highlight of the trip!! When we planned to go to Phuket, one of the things that attracted me most was Maya Bay. Yes, the very place where Hollywood blockbuster ' The Beach ' starring Leonardo Di Caprio was shot!! Maya bay has always been listed as one of the best beaches of the world; and I was able to understand why after I payed a visit myself!!

Our bookings had been done from India itself. Our cab picked us up at about 7 in the morning and dropped us off at Rassada Pier. From there we boarded a yacht and our awesome cruise began.
The early morning sun was shining in full glory and made the crystal clear waters of the Andaman Sea even more beautiful. We could see limestone cliffs here and there on the way; a speciality of Andaman Sea. It took about an hour an half before we reached Phi Phi ley island, the one with the famous maya Bay.

As we approached the island, the colour of the water beneath turned aquamarine as well as clear!! It was so clear that we could see the marine life underneath. It was the perfect place  for snorkelling!!
The beach i.e the Maya Bay was between two huge limestone cliffs. The scenery was simply mesmerising.
Now comes a bit scary adventure part. I and my hubby had never snorkelled before in true sense. We are good swimmers and love the sea, but this thing was new to us. It required us to jump from our yacht into the deep water with the equipment. Hubby had one more problem..what to do with his glasses??

Gathering all my courage, I put on my equipment and slowly entered the sea. At first I struggled with breathing; gradually I got accustomed. When I could breath freely, I looked inside the water for the first time. Goodness gracious!! I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life before. Fishes of all sizes in all colours, sea horses, starfish and all kinds of corals. Could God have been more creative?? I had never seen so many colours in one frame in my life before!!

We snorkelled for about an hour. We tried to hold hands while swimming but it was not feasible as it seemed. Then it was time to move on. Our captain gave us the signal to come back. We were not in a mood to leave the paradise. But as schedule was fixed, it was time to move on to the next island. It was one absolutely amazing experience of our lives.

In my last post I described a half day temple tour of Bangkok. Well thats not the end. I had expressed my displeasure about the ill and commercial designing of tour packages by the agencies. That day too it was proved how badly managed these packages are.
We had payed 100 Thai baht for entering into Wat pho. But due to supposed time constraint, our guide only made us visit the statue of reclining Buddha. What a loss!! Wat Pho has the largest temple area in entire Thailand and what we saw was just the main statue!! Dissatisfied but unwillingly we had to accompany our group and exit. As the half day tour came to an end, we immediately set off in a tuk tuk to go to Royal Grand Palace, THE place which I had been eyeing on the day we decided to visit Bangkok. But sadly, things did not turn out as we wanted it to.
Because of the silly half day tour we got free at about 1 pm and by the time we reached the palace, it was already half past 2 :( To add to our woes, we came to know that the ticket to the palace is 400 THB. Thats quite a sum because we hardly had much time left for the excursion. Unwillingly, we decided to ditch going inside and took pleasure from exploring it from outside; which was magnificient in itself.
After the palace we remembered that we had hardly seen Wat Pho. As we were nearby, we decided to follow google map ( my husband) and walked to the temple. Suddenly it started pouring cats and dogs. We had only one umbrella to protect from the sun; we neeeded another one to protect our camera and belonglings. While I stood in the shade, hubby made a quick run outside to buy one. All set, we began exploring the vast campus.
What fascinated me most about the architecture were the intricate colour details and the hugeness of the structures. Also there were thousands of Bonsai plants adorning the huge gardens. We spent about two hours walking and climbing the various monuments as that was only what we could spend. I am sure we must have left about half of the campus unexplored. But something is definitely better than nothing. At least I can say that I have seen Wat Pho and not only the Reclining Buddha. It was indeed an enriching experience.

Tips:
1. Entry to Royal grand palace is 400 THB. make sure you have enough time to utilize the money you have paid for.
2. Cover up your legs or keep a sarong handy. Otherwise you have to rent it from the stalls before entering the palace.
3. it can rain anytime in Bangkok. keep an umbrella handy.

The past few posts have been about my daily ramblings. Not that I enjoy sharing daily anecdotes, but the main motive of my blog is to share my travelogues. As I said here, I want my travel stories to inspire people to explore and share tips with them too :)
Out of the myriads of places I have been to, one of my favourite cities have been Bangkok. Bangkok may sound cliched to most of the Indians, as its one of the cheapest exotic destinations from India. Well, not that cheap if you want to actually 'explore'. The economic packages which are designed by the agents are very basic which means just a stamp on your passport. And that is not at all our way of travelling. We make sure that if we visit the most beautiful spots, the dark corners of the city have to be covered too!!

Moving on, Bangkok is quite a jinxed city according to me. Its very developed with network of flyovers and swanky malls, but its an international hub for criminals and the haven for legal prostituition. Ironically, religion is a huge part of the culture; with hundreds of temples in the city known as 'Wats' , making Bangkok the 'city of wats!!

The first day we spent in exploring the urban Bangkok and dedicated the next day to visit the temples. After an early breakfast, we set out. The earlier the better as traffic jams can get quite nasty. I had dressed up in a knee baring dress to which our guide made me cover up my legs as, such attire is disrespectful in the Wats.
We visited as much as time permitted. The temples had huge campuses, which required a lot of time to traverse through. Each of them were a speciality in itself. Wat Pho has the longest reclining Buddha Statue, Wat Benchamabopit is the largest marble temple while the Wat Tiramit has the largest Buddha Statue in gold. All of them were awe inspiring!! Our temple tour made us forget all the lights and sins that we had witnessed just the night before!!

TIPS:
1.Start early for the temple tour as you dont want to be wasting precious travel time stuck in traffic.
2. Wear something that covers your shoulders and knees. No cleavage baring outfits.
3. All the wats require entry tickets.Keep cash handy. Wat pho ticket is 100 thai baht while Tiramit is 25 THB only.
