So now all the events of October are over!! Can't believe I am almost done with one of my favourite months of the year!! Like I have said here, my October starts with the week long Durga puja, then husband's birthday  followed by bestie Jaspreet's birthday...and if I am lucky,as in this year, Diwali falls on October too!! Last week, we both girls had an awesome day out!!

Our friendship goes back to our medical school days right from the very first day itself. But little we knew that it would grow stronger day by day!! We actually became closer when we went on a college trip to Jim Corbett national park during first year. Since then we have stood beside each other through the ups and downs of life and would continue to do so.

Jaspreet and I are poles apart infact planets apart when it comes to personality. I am the talkative one while shes the listener. Maybe thats why we gel so nicely together..he he. This year we decided to go to Gurgaon to have a blast!!

The bash began with shopping for cosmetics. Like every girl, we are sucker for cosmetics and bought few things at Sephora. After that we tried on some crazy makeup products at their beauty bar which the assist insisted us to. It was the first time in my life that I had so many products on my face!!
After that we proceeded to do what we do best...eating!! We headed towards Chilis and stuffed ourselves to the throat ( no pun intended). Actually we ordered more than what we could eat!! One of the best meal experiences I have had in a long time!

After that we shopped for a while before it was time to go back. Usually every year we end up taking each other's pictures...we are unable to get clicked together. But this year, I managed to get a few nice shots!! What an awesome day it was! I wish Jaspreet once again a very happy belated birthday!! I hope we can celebrate for 100 more years to come and stand by each other always!!

Are not you all geared up for the upcoming festival? Its Dhanteras already! The word Dhanteras comes from Dhan: wealth and teras: thirteen. On this day Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped for wealth and prosperity. Well what we common people do is that we buy any metallic thing. Those who can afford to buy gold go for jewelry otherwise normal people settle in buying utensils. I the compulsive shopaholic just need an excuse to shop. Gold or no gold, I end up squandering whatever I like!

This year as we are not in Delhi, I completed my Dhanteras shopping way back. Following are the pictures of two such occasions where I had a small Pre Diwali celebration! Shopping shopping and photographs!! yay!

Ahaan!! Festivities!! Its the time of the biggest festival of the year!! I wish all my readers a very happy and prosperous Diwali in advance!! This year our Diwali is quite different from the previous years. For the first time, we are away from home at another home!! Yes, we are going to be at my in-laws place. This is our daughter's first Diwali and it deserves to be every bit special!!

For me every festival whether Durga Puja or Diwali means fun...elaborate meals and gifts. But for my husband its means rituals and Idol worship. So usually we divide the festival day in two parts. With my parents its shopping for gifts, eating delicious spreads and going out. For the rituals part, hubby makes sure that I follow strictly. Being an ardent traveller, I can spend everyday exploring. But when it comes to festive time, I always love celebrating at the comfort of my own home. There's nothing more enlightening like #gharwalidiwali!

This year too like every year we have put lights every where. Its raining candles and twinkling lights. As far as bursting crackers go, I am not a big fan. I like sparklers but the noise pollution is a big no no for me. As we are ringing festivities with the whole family, here are some pictures of a little pre Diwali celebration which we had in the city. Once again have a prosperous and safe Diwali!!

wishing you all a very happy diwali!!

It started out all wrong. Yes, one of my most awaited days of the year, husband's birthday went wrong right from the beginning!! I think there is a history already! Read here!! Firstly, his birthday was falling on Wednesday, his busiest day of the week as many surgeries are scheduled on that day. Usually he comes back at around 1 in the morning on Wednesdays. Then he had his 24 hours duty the next day.On Friday, which could have been celebratory, it was our niece's birthday.

So I thought of planning something on Tuesday night. I decided that after he comes back from work, we would go out and stay out till midnight; ringing in his birthday. So I made a reservation at an upscale place and asked him to come home as early as possible. It was already half past eight. Nowadays I need plenty of time to get ready. (I am a very quick person otherwise) Before going out anywhere, I have to spoonfeed my daughter ( which is a war in itself!!) , then I have to dress her up..chances are quite high that she would soil her clothes and I have to redress her again!! After all this turmoil, I have my chance to get ready!!
By the time we all got dressed, it was 9 30. Our reservations were at 8 30. We were already an hour late. So what was use of going so late? I decided to cancel. So that was the burial of our celebratory plans!!

I refused to give up. As our calender was full till Friday, I planned to go out on Saturday night. This time we dropped our baby at my mom's, so it was easier already. We headed out to the swankiest  eating joint in Delhi....Hauz Khas Village.
Coincidentally, the name of our place was 'Imperfecto'. Could the name have been more perfect? It was mainly a Mediterranean place with an Arabic decor ( sand all around) and quirky items placed all over. The delicious food, awesome live music and the ambiance brought the jinxed birthday to an end!!

I am not comfortable with close ups, but I love this photo nonetheless!!

An Imperfecto birthday...ideally it should be the birthday boy  in the picture but hes the one behind the lens!

nachos, moussaka, hummus, ginger ale and sparkling water...

wining and dining the night away...

all sorts of crazy memorabilia all around!!

the place was a combination of quirky and beachy...

There was a stream flowing all around the place...

the sand all around gave the place a desert feel!!

A child is the light of a family. In our case, its our infant. Yes, its our seven month old daughter who lights up our lives every time she smiles or makes a sound. However, the "chandni" of our lives has become a source of worry more than joy.. She is not well since two days.

Our daughter is March born and this year in Delhi it was quite cold at the time of her birth. But at that time my antibodies i.e her mother's antibodies were protecting her from infections. This is the first time that she has fallen sick and we are dead scared.

When a baby is born, all hopes lie on her. And when a baby falls sick, the whole world seems gloomy. My daughter has just started crawling and its really difficult to confine her to a limited space. The weather here in Delhi has cooled down considerably and its quite cold at night as well as in the morning. The floors are really frozen and no amount of carpeting can prevent the chill from seeping up. Maybe this is the reason why our crawler has caught cold.
When I was a child, my mother used to feed me Dabur Chyawanprash everyday in the morning. She used to say that it helps to fight infections by increasing immunity. I never complained because Dabur Chyawanprash tasted really good. Later on as I grew up, I came to know how it increases immunity. A concoction of Ayurvedic herbs like Indian Gooseberry ( Amla) and many others make it powerful. Now that I am a doctor I really get the science behind it. All the ingredients in it have powerful antioxidant properties. They strengthen the body's defense mechanism by stimulating natural killer cells which fights infections.

I have patients whose babies fall sick every now and then. I advice such parents to incorporate chyawanprash and honey in their daily diet ( both Ayurvedic secrets to longer life) apart from taking medicines. My daughter being so small, I thought of starting this regime after she completed her first birthday. But since she has fallen prey to cough and cold with this season, I plan to start it immediately.

Seeing your child sick is the most excruciating experience for a parent. Maybe I would get used to it later, I am hell worried right now. Our daughter is very, very naughty and seeing her sitting quietly at one place is beyond our acceptance. She does not have the energy to romp around the house on her four limbs ( she is a very fast crawler) the way she does grabbing and pulling and chewing everything that comes in her way. She is giving me real trouble while spoon feeding. Poor thing she can express herself only through crying and inactivity. We the parents on the other hand are shedding silent tears whenever she is coughing, sneezing or blowing her nose.

I am just praying to God to cure her as soon as possible. I am taking every precaution possible.. covered her head to toe in warm clothes, carpeted our entire house, giving her milk mixed with honey. I plan to start Dabur chyawanprash very soon.
Here is a timeline of our happy family. After all a healthy child makes a healthy home!!

Mermaid Prom Dresses

As the Diwali celebratory preparations are on full swing, so is the shopping!! Diwali is not only a time for Pujas but also for parties. Apart from ethnic wear, special party dresses are required for the biggest festival of the year.
As I was browsing sites for the perfect party dress, I came across a wonderful website from UK:  http://www.avivadress.co.uk/

My hunt immediately stopped here. And instead of one, I ended up selecting many more dresses for the upcoming festival and party season. Here are some favourite picks of mine.

This cobalt blue evening dress is one of my first picks. I love classic cuts and floor lengths. This one is perfect for family gatherings or formal events. Shop it here.

This yellow evening dress is a showstopper. You can wear them to occasions where you need to dress up a bit conservatively because of the elegant floor length of the dress. Shop it  here.

This black and white cocktail dress is a no fuss but beautiful party wear. Shop it here.

This prom dress is a fun twist to the classic black and white ensemble. The oversized bow reminds me of the iconic bow dress which Carrie Bradshaw wore in Sex and the city part II movie!! Shop it here.

This lovely prom/evening/party dress is young and flirty. The colour and the silhouette is so pretty and feminine! Shop it here.

This is a classic black formal dress. You can never go wrong with this one. Shop it here.

This is a beautiful prom/cocktail dress which can be worn on occasions more than one. Shop it here.

The best part about www.avivadress.co.uk ? Not only it crafts beautiful dresses for petite and perfect frames but for plus sizes too!! So even big and curvy girls can look their utmost feminine best!! This site offers the most fashionable and gorgeous plus size clothing and maternity wear!!

This blue tulle cocktail dress would make anyone swoon over a big girl! Shop it here.

Below are a few more dramatic evening/ party/ long prom dresses. The ruffles, slits, etc are crafted with great care and detail.

Aviva dress offers hundreds of evening dresses, prom dresses, cocktail and formal dresses. They have a huge selection of wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses. So now you can plan your wedding outfit without any stress!!

If you are a colour lover, you would love this site. If you are fond of the classic back and white, you would love them even more!!

So what are you waiting for? Visit http://www.avivadress.co.uk/ and shop to your heart's content. The best part? They are offering upto 85% discount! So this party season promises to get a lot more exciting!!
