A very very happy Xmas to all my lovely readers!! Hope everyone had a blast!! I always wish that holidays never got over!! I have always loved wearing red on Xmas..it camouflages me with the merry surroundings. This time I made my husband wear black so he complemented my red and black attire!! Like every year, it was a chilly Xmas so everyone had warm clothes piled on. In India what I love most about this day are the beautiful  decorations. Santa, reindeers gifts Christmas trees of various color and style!! I love them all!!

This year, it was a pretty eventful day. We were invited to attend a Puja  by a senior doctor. That explains our traditional attire :D The elaborate rituals were followed by a terrace lunch.  The ambience was absolutely beautiful with the trees all around and shining sun overhead. It was a traditional elaborate Telugu lunch which reminded us of the scrumptious food served in Andhra Bhawan.

Afterwards, we headed off to Vasant Kunj to continue with the Xmas festivities. Our eventful day was concluded by a nice dinner and homemade chocolate cake (made by me ).
As I had told here, this year was pretty much the picnicky Xmas which I used to have with my parents!! :D

Christmas is just one day away!! Yayy!! We Indians are the most secular when it comes to holidays. People from all religions come together to celebrate every festival. Hindus celebrate Christmas and Id with full fervor while Muslims and Christians look forward to Dusshera, Diwali and Holi!! We are the epitome of secularism when to comes to holidays!!

In my case, Christmas has always been a a day for gifts, good food (esp. cakes and desserts) and picnic time…right from childhood. My Mom used to make delicious cakes and surprise me with gifts. And we used to take full advantage of the chilly yet sunny weather by going for a picnic!!  So our Christmas used to be Mom packing yummy lunch and dad driving us to a nice lakeside or a park. Now that I am married ,this does not happen anymore!!

Now what happens is that often my husband is not there to accompany me on holidays. Even if those holidays mean big festivals like Diwali , Dusshera and Christmas!! I know…poor me L That’s the flip side of being a busy surgeon’s wife. But that doesn’t dampen my festive spirit.. I always have my bestie to count upon!! Last year, I had a blast with her on this day!!

all ready with my Xmas shopping...

Since December has set in, I have been in a festive mood. I am reminiscing the past Christmas and waiting for the coming one. Being averse to winters, I am also missing my sunny vacation days. As I had professed my love for Malaysia many times here and here, I would like to share one more enjoyable day of my incredible vacation.

Genting Highlands is a hill resort which is dominated by hotels and theme parks. Its an entertainment destination which is buzzing with life all year long. There are casinos, malls, restaurants, and to top it all, there is a huge Indoor Theme Park and an Outdoor Theme Park!! This place also has the world’s largest hotel.. Hotel First World which has more than 6000 rooms and where we had a lovely stay!!!

Genting Highlands being a hill resort remains cool and pleasant all year long. But what makes matters worse is that it remains cloudy and foggy for most of the year making photography difficult. It rains every now and then causing most of the rides in the outdoor park to shut down. When we reached, it was raining heavily. I was very upset and we spent the evening in the Indoor Theme Park. But to our good luck, the next morning , not only the rain stopped but it was a clear sunny sky….a thing very unlikely of this place!! Though the sun played peek a boo with the clouds during the entire day, I was fortunate to have enough light for taking photographs!!

The whole day was spent in thrilling rides and beautiful photo ops amidst the bustling happy crowd. The place was cheerfully noisy till 7 in the evening when the rides closed!! Its an uhhmazing place for grown ups and kids alike; there is something exciting for every age group!! In a nut shell, it is perfect for a family outing and I am so glad that my parents took me there!!

With festivities round the corner and winter carnivals here and there in the city, I am in no mood to work!! I am especially missing the recently concluded India International Trade Fair. This year was the 33rd edition which is held every year in Delhi’s Pragati Maidan. IITF is a fortnight long shopping festival where countries from all over the world participate. From hundreds of domestic stalls to state specific shops to international outlets, it’s a fortnight long fun filled extravaganza!!

Delhi is very pleasant at this time of the year..with just the right amount of chill and sunshine. Shopping and strolling around in the winter sun is such an awesome feeling!! Every year I visit Trade fair only with the intention of window shopping  and eating. But to my wallet’s horror, I always end up with bags full of goodies!! So irresistible are the plethora of the products there!!

Not only the products, but the décor of the stalls are worthy of adulation. The state stalls are usually adorned with the most symbolic architecture of their respective state. This time my haul included loads of trinkets, jute products like jute sandals and bags and loads of cosmetics!! Eagerly waiting for next year’s trade fair!!

Malaysia is an amazing amalgamation of culture, modern technology, beautiful landscapes, great shopping, yummy food and warm people. Geographically it has varied terrain from plains and hills to stunning islands. From the religious point of view, its an Islamic country. But there is a famous Hindu place of worship called Batu Caves which is perched high up in the hills.

The way to Batu Caves is rather fascinating. We left Kuala Lumpur by bus and as soon as we left the plains, began the bumpy ride uphill.  It was cool and pleasant when we reached there and the ambience was rejoicing. As we reached the foot of the hill, we saw the huge statue of Lord Murugan.

Lord Murugan is a South Indian God. This statue is the largest of its kind in the world. But the real adventure was yet to begin. The way to the temple was 272 steps up. Whoa!! I was wearing high hills and I immediately ditched them for flats and started our climb. My mom was not too keen but she accompanied me and my dad nonetheless.Huffing and puffing, we made our way to the top.The sweaty climb was worth every drop of sweat. The view from there was mesmerizing. Me and my dad also went to the dark caves. After spending some time above we made our way down. We were tired and famished. We had a hearty lunch at one of the many Indian restaurants. It had started pouring heavily. We all got into the bus fully drenched. It was an awesome experience.

now I am scared after seeing the stairs!!

One more month has passed by. And the last one of this year is left. Soon 2013 is going to be history!! This year has been so eventful for me. I have loved every moment of it inspite of the mild ups and downs. But one cannot cling to something good forever, one has to take chances and embrace the unknown!! Thats what life is about!!
As December comes knocking, I reminisce the sweet memories attached to this month. The time of christmas and after meeting my hubby...The All India Orthopaedic Conference ( a multi day fest) and the uncertainties of the coming year, I have always looked forward to this month. The main downside of December according to me is the blood freezing temperature which I loathe!!
Three years back ie in 2010...God its been more than three years that I have met my hubby!! I had big plans for christmas. I was doing my medical internship and so was posted even on this holiday. In the evening I and my then fiance were supposed to attend the Disney extravaganza. However, whenever I and my fiance had plans, it had ended up in disaster as I have said here.
My parents had never approved of roaming around in late evening before marriage and that day was ultimate!! When it was time to leave, the roads were so much jammed with traffic, we were unable to budge even a single inch for three hours!! It was about 10 at night when we finally reached home. I got a terrible thrashing from my parents :D and we vouched always to use the metro on public holidays!!
Not alls well that ends well!! Because even though my first christmas with my fiance was an ultimate disaster, the Disney memories were so beautiful that I still cherish them and am sharing with you all now!!

love Mickey and Minnie!!

My pictures may seem quite different and I too may not be recognizable conventionally as I was three years younger and far less mature :D Moreover, this evening was after a gruelling day in the hospital!! :D
