Rainbow Paradise Resort, Penang
Call us the leaders of budget stays that don't look like budgety at all, in fact they look fabulous! My husband spend hours searching for stays that fulfill our criteria, like proximity to the city centre or bus stop, beach or supermarket, with amenities like swimming pool or play areas (depending on whether we are traveling with kids, parents or as a couple).
For Penang, we divided our stay into 3 parts: two in Georgetown, the capital/city centre of Penang and the third stay on the beach. The most popular beach is Feringhi Beach and hence the properties there (of our liking were humungously expensive.) So we searched for properties on that part of the island, but a different, lesser known beach and found Tanjung Bungah beach. Of course there were a tonne of beachfront properties (mostly skyscrapers) and while there were biggies like Hilton and Flamingo, we chose Rainbow Paradise Resort as it suited more to our budget.
We were staying at the 25th floor from which we could see the sea, the city and the sea and the city and the roads. Basically we had a 270 degrees free view, something that we simply lucked out on and money couldn't buy. We had our drinks (coffee, tea and soda) out in the balcony, whenever we could and would never get tired of.
The breakfast spread was nice but the poolside and sea view from the dining hall was even better! There were activities like pickle ball and mini golf too, on extra payment. And during the night, there used to be fire shows on the beach, which must not be missed at any cost.
The property was a bit run down, but it was bougie on a budget nevertheless. A room that big with that kind of view is unforgettable. It was definitely a great choice.

I absolutely loved your post that walked me through your experience, especially that jaw‑dropping 270° seaside‑city view from the 25th floor, it felt like a little slice of luck in paradise for me. And reading about that breakfast with a sea‑view dining hall made me wish I was there sipping coffee and soaking in the breeze as I was going through the post.
ReplyDeleteLoved your photos! It must feel amazing, and so rewarding, to find a place that’s not only within budget but also offers such stunning views.

ReplyDeleteAs always, your cheerful pictures actually do all the talking. But hey, thanks for guiding us through all these stunning budget stays.
ReplyDeleteHaven’t had the pleasure of staying at Rainbow Paradise, but glowing reviews on spacious rooms with sea‑view balconies and a lush pool make it sound like bougie‑on‑a‑budget bliss, with the caveat that its vintage décor and patchy Wi‑Fi might remind you it’s no five‑star palace
ReplyDeleteI would call you'll smart travelers, as getting great deals that are value for money is the best way to travel. Your posts and pics are always a delight to read and see. Mayuri/Sirimiri

That's a colourful snap of your stay in Penang!
ReplyDeleteI could relive the beauty rather vicariously through your lovely blog.
ReplyDeleteIf that is what a budget hotel /stay looks like, I am all for it. To be honest I do not care if they have a pool (unless it is a big one) or if they have luxuries.CLean , comfortable with the option for room service and located not far from civilisation is all I ask for. Yours had some cool fire shows and delicious looking food too.No wonder you guys look so cosy.
ReplyDeleteI like budget stays better since they allow us to spend elsewhere, maybe on travel or shopping. Loved the pictures as always!
ReplyDeleteWe also prefer budget stays that don’t feel budgety, so this was super relatable. That 270° view sounds like such a dream, what a lucky find! The views are stunning and your photos make me want to pack my bags right away.
ReplyDeleteBudget yet no compromise on stay quality and safety is something we also ensure whereever we visit. The 270 degree view from 25th floor is a real bliss and I imagine me and you reminded me of the Paris City view from the top of Eiffel tour. Enjoy my dear as much as you can.....
ReplyDeleteSeems like a resort that friendly on the wallet and great for a relaxed seaside stay that works well for families. Loved your photos as always, Mandira. They add a story of their own to your travel posts for sure
