The cutest medieval village in Greve: Montefioralle, Tuscany, Italy

by - 2/02/2018

After all the heartbreak and hoopla about not being able to rent a scooter, I finally gave in to the beauty of the surroundings. We climbed all the way from Greve to the nearest medieval town Montefioralle. I was huffing and panting. I mean after all those kilometers of hiking, who had the energy left for climbing the Tuscan hills? Anyways the bottom line is is that we reached a medieval town which I had been longing to visit and I was finally there!

During our short duration in the Tuscan countryside we noticed that all the people there were English speaking. I mean no where in Italy you could hear English. But there, anyone you may overhear would be English speaking! There is a reason behind it. the Tuscan countryside is a favourite for the British as well as Americans to spend their summers. We were there in August, the peak of their vacation time. All the families we we met there were spending their summer vacations.
We chatted with a British family who had three kids. The father said that they come to Italy (Tuscany to be precise) every year during summers, rent a stone mansion (my dream house) and a car to spend their entire summer holidays here! How lucky they are!
On the bus too we met an elderly American who has shifted to Florence after his retirement. He was from Florida. I mean how can life be so simple for some? I could die to live in this countryside!
We then started walking through the village. There is a very typical thing about the locals there. Every female seems to look from the windows. The windows are really high and in almost every one of them, you can spot an Italian damsel peeking from there :D
The stone houses were imposing and so were the surrounding vineyards and pine trees. I had always read that a trip to the countryside was incomplete without cooking lessons and pasta making classes. I spotted many homes which offered classes.
Finally for lunch we went to Panzano from Montefioralle. We ate to our hearts content in what seemed to be the prettiest looking Ristorante in Panzano. I ordered fusili with tuna while the hubs settled for gnocchi with olives and goat cheese in tomato sauce. It was the perfect way to satiate our appetite after a long, sunny day.
