RAMNAGAR...the other side of Ganges...

by - October 27, 2013

It is a well known fact that Varanasi   one of the oldest living cities in the world, lies on the banks of our beloved ganges. But what is not usually known is that Ramnagar, a quaint little city, lies on the other side of the ganges. Though culturally very similar to that of Varanasi, It has its own individuality too.

Ramnagar is just a ferry away from varanasi, just fifteen minute boatride. But during the rains when the ganga is overflowing, the usually enjoyable boat ride makes you pray for your lives!! There is also a bridge across the river which makes Ramnagar more accessible through automobiles; but nothing can replace the fun of having a joyous boatride!!

Apart from numerous temples, the most famous attraction of ramnagar is the Ramnagar fort. It was built in 1790 by Kashi naresh ie the king of varanasi. The current king used to reside here before his demise few years ago. In fact my husband and his friends have actually met the King of varanasi!! Royal stories have always fascinated me!!

Other than the fort, The Ramleela of Ramnagar is world famous!! Though I have not experienced yet. Firstly because I cannot afford to miss Durga Puja. Trip to Ramnagar would mean being far from my very own Durga Puja. Secondly, I am a bit claustrophobic. The thought of myriads of enthusiastic people makes me dizzy!!

Recently, this city came into limelight as the blockbuster Raajhanaa was shot here.
Lastly for a foodie like me, ramanagar's lassi is very famous!! The creamy whipped yogurt makes my day!! But my most favourite part of this little city would always remain the fort!! Love the architecture, love the breeze, love everything!!

just love the cool breeze blowing across my face!!

is not the view wonderful??

The inside. There are lots of cannons and other arms and ammunition, but I like sticking to girly stuff!!

the entrance of the fort...

the fort against the backdrop of the river...

durings rains, the water level reaches upto the door. This is a private way to the river for the females residents of the fort..

love the architecture and the huge doors!!

Doors have always been my favourite props to pose with!!

tiny me in front of the huge fort!!

a cute elephant at the entrance of the museum...
