DHANOULTI.....in the lap of himalayas....
It was the second day of our impromptu summer escape. We woke up early in the morning in our cozy hotel room with lots of plans in our head. I, as my husband accuses, take a lot of time in dressing up. So I decided to get ready first. After all, its I only who has to pack everything from scratch, even if its just a full day excursion.. No help from anyone in that. hence, of course, I would be the last one to get ready. :D
As I started stuffing things into the bag, I realised the sun had not risen yet. It was pitch dark when we woke up as it was very early. But as I removed the curtain, I realised it was raining very heavily. Oh god!! what are we going to do now? We had planned a trip to Kempty Falls today and the bus for that tour left at 8 in the morning. How could we even think of leaving the hotel in this terrible downpour? Moreover, as there was nip in the air, a dip in the glacier melted water was not at all a feasible idea. I was all prepared for the swim, and was wearing my swimwear beneath my clothes and I felt very dismal. :(
I related the unfortunate turn of events to my hubby and after he came out from the shower, we both sat in the balcony waiting for the downpour to cease. It was almost 10 when the intensity of the rains lessened and we quickly made our way out of the hotel. We made our way through the winding roads straight to the Uttarakhand transport department amidst the puddles and drizzling. I just hate rains in the hills!! With hope in our eyes, we asked the inquiry whether there was any second bus to Kampty Falls. But alas!! it was too late. We stood outside the office in dismay, getting drenched. I felt like bursting into tears. Our plans for the entire day had gone for a toss. Then suddenly, a man called us from inside and said there are two seats available for Dhanoulti tour, are you game?? i had never heard of this place before, and we came to know that its basically an ecological park. We both jumped at the offer when another man said that visiting a forest in the rains is not at all a good idea. True ,But we could not afford to waste an entire day and we both jumped into the bus. It was almost two hours uphill when we reached the forest and as soon as we landed, I said that whatever happens is always for the best. It was such an idyllic spot that we never knew about; and would have given a miss if not for the terrible rains. I thanked God and jumped around in joy and started doing what I do best...taking pictures !! :D
TRAVEL TIPS:
1.Though self drive to the himalayas is a popular and convinient option, I donot suggest it as it is not safe.
2.The Uttarakhand buses are a safe, convinient and pocket friendly way to traverse the hills. Their iterenaries are really well planned.
