My favorite shows of 2024
My favourite shows of 2024:
I am not big on OTTs because firstly, I am a busy mom of two, who hardly gets time to breathe. Secondly, I feel that these shows are addictive and contribute to the dopamine deluge. Thirdly, these shows are uncensored, so I can't be watching them in front of the kids. So during the kid free time, either I can complete my next deadline, or watch an episode. Of course, the former wins.
Having said all of these, this year I managed to gobble a few shows, and loved them. So thought of sharing with you all a few of my favourites. The platforms are bustling with great content (and not so great too). So in case you haven't watched any of these, I highly recommend finishing your watchlist!
1. The Perfect Couple. Where should I start from? Alright the cast. Nicole Kidman, Meghann Fahy (the Bold type, White Lotus S2), Eve Hewson (Behind her eyes), Dakota Fanning and the charismatic Ishan Khatter, to name a few. Location: The entire show is located on a beach in Nantucket. It's a limited series, so it scores more for me, since it's easier to keep track. The title track "Criminal" has gotten me hooked and I later realised that the entire world had been jamming on this track. The end number of reels and tik toks prove so! And to top it all, it's a murder mystery! In a nutshell, it's a fantastic watch and you will be able to finish in a single day.
2. Nobody wants this season 1
An interfaith relationship involving an Orthodox Rabbi with an atheist. Can it get more complicated? What a show! Adam Brody is adoooorable and so is Kristen Bell. Everything, literally everything about this show is entertaining and you do not want to miss this if rom com is your genre. Everyone is waiting for season 2 already. And the soundtrack? It's gripping! The last song that plays when they kiss, came out 8 years back and no one knew about it, till it got included in this show! Now everyone is raving about it. "That's just life" by Francis and the lights has made me fix it as my ringtone for my husband.
3. Only murders in the building season 4 I have to say that this is my most favorite season so far! The cast gets even more interesting with the new joinies like Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, Melissa McCarthy, to name a few but the plot is also more intriguing. Selena has thankfully done a better job than what she did in the earlier seasons. And the two Martins are my absolute favorite!
4. Emily in Paris Season 4.
Again a fabulous season of this low on substance, high on glam factor Darren Star creation. You have to watch it of you are a fan of this genre. This season got better and now Emily is in Rome!
5. Very Parivarik.
The only Hindi show on my list, it's available on YouTube. My husband came up with this and it's a very cute yet realistic day to day story of a Mumbai urban inter faith couple. Must watch if you are married.
6. Griselda
A big fan of Sofia Vergara, this show is a hair raising watch. The way the producers brought alive the Columbian drug queen of the 70s and 80s is really commendable. It's an excellent crime show and definitely not for the faint hearted. After watching it, I did a deep dive on the story of Griselda and her whereabouts and was lost in thoughts. I had felt exactly the same when I watched The Serpent, the story of bikini killer Charles Sobraj.
7.Fabulous lives vs Bollywood wives season 3
I agree reality TV is trash but this one is hell entertaining! Especially since the 3rd season involves 3 socialites from Delhi! The fabulous lives of Bollywood wives turned into Fabulous lives "vs" Bollywood wives, since the Delhiites got included. If reality show is your jam, you gotta watch this show!
8. Selling Sunset season 8
Again top notch reality TV. This show is a crazy mix of real estate, drama, fashion and entertainment.
9.Bridgerton Season 3 Of course I am waiting for the next season. Love it or hate it, you can't ignore it!
10.Sex education: I was late to this party as this famous show came out in 2019, and the final season was aired in 2023. I watched all the 4 seasons back to back, and although there is too much s**, it has a gripping storyline! No wonder why it was so popular!
11. The latest season of Virgin River is scheduled to drop soon, and I plan to watch it. I love the cast, the slow life and the location of this series!
12. I finished watching one of my all time favorite shows: The Modern Family, and was sad when it finally ended. They had literally become a part of my daily routine. What a show! I would say the best family comedy ever created!
13. My Life with the Walter Boys. Slightly slow paced but enough of substance. Only season 1 has come out and season 2 is awaited. It's a good watch if you like serious shows.
14. Unprisoned
This show has 2 seasons and the plot is quite different as it mainly deals with the relationship between a daughter and her criminal father, who just got out of prison. The girl had a tumultuous childhood, owing to her father's misdemeanors with the law, and this makes her date only white men, become a therapist and eventually a single mother. It's a beautiful show portraying twisted relationship dynamics and I really liked it.
15. A nearly normal family
I watch Nordic noir or shows of any other country to get a taste of that culture (my passion btw). Although Spanish/French/Latin American shows are beyond my tolerance level and I haven't watched any K drama so far. Anyways, this show is based in Denmark and is a depressing story but you won't be able to leave it till you get to the end of this.
How many of these have you watched? What else should I add to my watchlist? Let me know!

Interesting choices. I haven't watched most of them, barring Griselda. Didn't really enjoy Griselda. I like OTT, specially those have Indian content. I can relate to them. There are quite a few OTTs in Hindi, that I found interesting. I agree some of them may not be watched with children and parents.
ReplyDeleteI have watched quite a few of these, but yet to watch Griselda. Goes on my list
